DarkCubes Server Update — July 31

Another day of smaller improvements on DarkCubes. Nothing revolutionary, but several changes should make the server more pleasant to play on.

Fewer incorrect anticheat warnings

The anticheat was sometimes reacting to perfectly legitimate actions or items. Players should now experience fewer unfair kicks.

No more item pickup spam

Until now, every item collected by every player appeared in the chat. When several players were exploring or clearing a dungeon together, normal conversations quickly became impossible to follow.

The server has now been changed so that you only see your own item pickups. The chat should once again be useful for actually talking to other players.

Duplicate drops still being investigated

The issue causing some creatures to drop duplicated items has not yet been resolved. AI helped produce and implement an initial attempt at fixing it, but the change caused the server to crash during testing. It has therefore been removed for now.

A known gameplay issue is preferable to introducing instability, so further testing will be needed before another version is added to the live server.

Players are returning

The most encouraging news is that some players are now coming back regularly instead of joining only once out of curiosity.

The next goal is simple: getting more than two players online at the same time. Many of you are currently connecting a few hours apart and narrowly missing each other.

Hopefully, we can soon get a proper group exploring the world together.
